Oceans Getting Louder Due to Rising CO2 Levels
Of all the consequences that rising levels of carbon dioxide emissions have wrought, this has to be one of the stranger ones: the world’s oceans are getting louder. Yes, seas around the globe are becoming physically noisier. Here’s how.
According to the New York Times, the chemical compounds in seawater that absorb sound have been affected by the increased absorption of atmospheric CO2. Energy from sound waves stimulates certain chemical reactions—and now the greater amounts of CO2 are causing seawater chemistry to change, the result being fewer chemical reactions and less acoustic energy used.
Very Interesting Article But lets look at this:
Think about all the Co2 and NOX emissions the Vespa scooters they road down to the boat marina put out. I know for a fact one scooter puts out as much emissions as 5 Honda Civics which is an ultra low emission vehicle thanks to their catalytic converters. What about the NOX emissions which I think is much worse than Co2 at least the plant life and algae alike can absorb Co2 and make oxygen. NOX makes ground level smog and Acid rain, depletes oxygen that degrades water quality and harms fish and the air we breath. Oh and the boat that the researchers used to take these samples probably wasn’t very clean either pumping out diesel particulate matter, or the electrical equipment they used to take measure, print, post , blog, etc this information all can be traced back to a “carbon emission”. The internet itself adds to NOX and Co2 emissions because of the extra electricity needed to supply all the equipment, house the equipment, and keep it in proper temperature and humidity conditions, not mention your computer which needs the same. I would like to see more funding put to the reduction of Co2 and especially NOX emissions. If we can figure out how to remove NOX or prevent it from being formed during combustion in the creation of the energies we use daily we will be one step closer to helping this planet in the interim period between fossil fuel consumption and clean alternative energy production. Trust me I know, I am working on this problem in a private think tank of very intelligent and dedicated people to making this planet better for all its inhabitants.
know. no mediocrity
